During their rallies they ride several thousands of kilometers, they fight for seconds to rank up top at the finish of the race, possibly even managing a place on the podium – these are KTM’s rally-bikers.

Every one of these chases needs to be planned and organized. Personal skills need to be properly evaluated. The riders need to get used to the varying conditions of the track.

Everyone will prepare for it in his own distinct way. He will try to go to his own limits as well as the limits of the bike. Nothing should be left to chance. If one makes a mistake during the race one will either loose valuable time in the ranking fight or finish the race right there.
As experienced riders these guys can give you some advice how to handle a KTM which can also be interesting for motorbike adventurers.
Before leaving for a trip one should make sure that he is fit enough for such a tour on two wheels.

“You’ll get the best training if you ride as much as possible beforehand,” knows Nani Roma, winner of the Dakar Rally. “The muscles you need for a good stamina are getting exercised then. I’m riding many Enduro-races. With that I’m constantly exercising my muscles. Sometimes I switch the saddle and practice on my mountain bike during the breaks from racing. That will keep you fit.”

Due to the continuous sitting ones behind gets shaped as well. Nothing would be worse than a rear end which doesn’t want to sit any longer. Not only Nani Roma likes to practice with his motor- and mountain bike. For Frenchman Cyril Despres it is just as important to keep fit as it is for Roma. He, too, likes to ride as much as possible. “If we lack the needed strength,” says Cyril Despres, “we haven’t practices enough beforehand. If an amateur rider gets tired and worn he or she should better take a break or nap for a while. Unfortunately we aren’t able to do so while racing.”

Giovanni Sala, repeated Enduro champion, agrees with him and likes to add: “If you physical fitness isn’t right than your concentration might slip.” And concentration you will need, not only on the road, but also off-road.
